A 900-square-foot addition and a renovation of the original house, designed with architect Erik Churchill of BLDGWORKS. Featured in Dwell, January/February 2019.
Relatives of the owners built the original house in 1979. The new addition holds two bedrooms, a study and a bathroom. The aim was for it to feel connected to the house inside while reading as a new, distinct volume from outside, so cedar planks wrap the exterior.
Inside, the work includes a floating main stair with treads salvaged from old barn wood, set against birch paneling; a built-in oak-and-steel dining table; and birch plywood that carries from the bench by the front entrance to the coat rack.
Dwell featured the project as "Everything Is Relative" in its January/February 2019 issue.
